The pig races for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service at the weekend raised about $5000 for our region, events co-ordinator Jeff Galbraith said.
“I’d suggest that, at the peak, there was at least a couple of hundred people watching it, and it was just a great family day – the kids had a ball,” he said.
The second annual event was held at the Southgate Inn on Saturday.

The porky racers were provided by Noah’s Thoroughbred Racing Pigs, near Warwick, with auctions and raffles determining who would back which runner.
“Kevin Kiley [race caller] joked with people many times throughout the event that, unfortunately, they wouldn’t be taking any of the pigs home – as disappointing as that was for some,” Mr Galbraith said.
“It was just hilarious fun … really enjoyable to get that sort of age range in a licensed venue, with no trouble and everyone enjoying themselves.”
The event was locked in for the same time next year – the Saturday before the October long weekend, he said.
