
New England Police District are seeking information after an illegal hunting incident in Mungindi.
About 10pm on Wednesday, several gunshots were heard on a property on Watercourse Road, Mungindi, after an vehicle illegally entered the place.
The Rural Crime Prevention Team and New England Police District said they took illegal hunting seriously, and offenders faced up to 10 years’ imprisonment for discharging a firearm while trespassing.
It comes during the third annual Rural Crime Week, and after several kangaroos and pigs were killed on a property near Tamworth.
Police said after that incident, on September 11, they’d also received several reports of illegal hunting in the Piallaway and Currabubula areas.

Police said proactive operations were regularly taking place across the district and they strongly encouraged landholders to continue reporting incidents when they occurred.
