Willis and Blue Movie entered the ring after 116 other riders and sped around the course in 76.95 seconds.
That effort saw Willis leap into second place before his time was beaten by one other rider to put him down into third position.
Willis’ place is the highest ever recorded by an Australian showjumper at the World Equestrian Games since its inaugural event in 1990.
Blue Movie is owned by Willis, his parents, David and Elsa, who still live in Armidale, Warren Coventry and Guyra locals Michael and Wendy Jackson.
Willis and the performances of Jamie Kermond, Scott Keach and Billy Raymont ensured Australia would finish fifth in the teams’ competition – our highest ever result.
WEG is the one of the biggest global sporting events which brings together eight equestrian disciplines.
