In Tamworth, the Tamworth Cycle Club, Tamworth Mountain Bikers, Tamworth BMX Club and Tamworth Regional Council (TRC) have joined forces to host a ‘Family Ride Run Day’ along the Peel River levee bank on Sunday, to recognise Bike Week and provide an opportunity for the community to participate in a coordinated bicycle event.
“Cycling has become increasingly popular throughout the Tamworth region and we are pleased to be working on an event that helps to raise the profile of cycling as a healthy, fun and low-impact transport option for all ages,” Deputy Mayor Phil Betts said.
The ‘Family Ride Fun Day’ will get underway at 11 am and will include a family friendly ride along with Peel River Levee Bank, followed by a BBQ lunch, free jumping castle and display by Tamworth Mountain Bikers and Tamworth BMX Club.
There will also be a coffee and ice-cream van on-site and local bike store Broken Spoke will be offering free bicycle safety checks and advice.
“Whether you’re a professional cyclist, novice or new to riding, this event is going to be a fun way to spend time outdoors with the family,” Cr Betts said.

“Aside from the range of events being held across the State, NSW Bike Week is also an opportunity for local councils and cycling clubs to increase the use of local cycling infrastructure for transport and recreation; as well as to educate the community on the importance of road safety and relevant road rules, and to promote cycling as a safe mode of transport for short trips.”
An initiative of the NSW Government through Transport for NSW, Bike Week is being held from Saturday September 22 to Sunday September 30.
