Tamworth Regional Council will move to scrap and replace its current Aviation Strategic Development Steering Group in favour of a bigger committee involving all of the councillors.
There is only five councillors on the current steering group.
If the new group is formed and takes off at tonight’s council meeting there’s a small list of priorities set out for the group to focus on.

The committee will hone in on focus pilot and aviation technician training, as well as the development of Tamworth Regional Airport to accommodate international air freight.
“I think all of the councillors have very strong interest in the strategic direction of the airport and that’s what the recommendation is suggesting,” mayor Col Murray said.
“And that was brought about by the interest of the businesses out there with the potential decline of BAE and their project completing next year in Tamworth and the opportunities that are available for pilot training.”
Tamworth airport has been shortlisted as a location in the running to secure Qantas’ vaunted regional pilot training academy.
Cr Murray was very tight-lipped about the city’s chances.
“We’re still waiting on an announcement and we have nothing further to add,” he said.
An announcement is expected soon.
