THE Curlewis community is set to do its bit for drought relief with a fundraising event at the Commercial Hotel on September 15.
Featuring woodfire pizzas, a barbecue and a charity auction, the event will raise much-needed funds for the region’s drought-stricken farmers.
Commercial Hotel publican Kevin Edmonds said the event would have “something for everyone”
“We have already had some really generous auction item donations,” Mr Edmonds said.
“There’s sporting memorabilia, farming equipment such as concrete mix and feed vouchers as well.”
As well as a fundraising auction, the evening will also see funds raised through donations and raffles.
“On the night there will also be live music from Sam Snape,” Mr Edmonds said.
“Out the back of the bar there will be woodfire pizzas going from 5pm, so it should really be a terrific family event and we hope to see a lot of people there.”
Mr Edmonds said connecting as a community was very important during tough times like drought.
“Over the last couple of weeks we have really been encouraging farmers to come in for a little while and relax,” he said.
“Most of us in the country know how bad it is out there so anything we can do to help is a bonus.”
In the meantime, the Curlewis publican said he would always lend an ear to any customer in need of a chat.
“You hear in general conversation how tough things are at the moment,” he said.
“While I am not a psychologist I am always happy to listen and give our farming mates a bit of a break from their day to day jobs.
“We have seen quite a few come in over the past few weeks which is very pleasing, even if it’s just for one drink and a chat, it’s better than not talking to anybody.”
