Court 5 was particularly chilly, with parents bundled up in winter woolies, but the court soon warmed up with both teams’ heated play.
The ball was moved rapidly along the court and both teams scored early with Will Berton from McCarthy and Nash Porter from Farrer marking the board.
Will scored again before Farrer’s Sol Arranz potted a lovely three-pointer.
Arranz backed himself with another three while Berton evened the score the hard way with two more two pointers.
Interception was the name of the game with some tricky moves from both teams changing the direction of play regularly.
The teams both showed impressive skills, finessing the ball from their competitors without incurring fouls with body contact.
This kept the ball in motion and the point scoring stalled briefly before James Sainsbury started the action again for Farrer.
Leo Berman kept up for McCarthy leaving the way clear for Ryan Lowe to score his two.
Nash Porter’s three started a scoring bonanza for Farrer and Porter personally as he notched up two two-pointers and another impressive three.
Charlie Williams added his two along with Sol Arranz to finish up the Taipans on 24 points for the first half.
The Maverick’s Wyatt Allen ended his team’s score on 14 for the half as a last second half court shot missed the mark.
Farrer started the second half as strongly as they finished the first as the team worked together anticipating moves and translating this into points.
Sol Arranz scored first then Charlie Williams sunk two singles and a double before Sol potted another two baskets.
McCarthy’s Tom Littlejohns was able to get his two foul shots through the hoop before Will Berton and Ryan Sing each sunk their own two pointers, adding to McCarthy’s total.
Wyatt Allen and Ethan Lee scored a basket each before Berton succeeded again. Jack Smith’s lovely two pointer was the last for the Mavericks and their final score was 28.
Farrer’s defence was too strong for McCarthy with some great blocking in the key. This combined with some unlucky misses from the Mavericks kept their score relatively staid for the team.
Sam Fox from the Taipans scored his first paving the way for Arranz to score again.
Jackson Stanford added his two before Fox showed that his first goal was not a fluke by ending Farrer’s score on a total of 42 with his own two.
A nice game from both teams with a well deserved win from Farrer.
