BOLD and beautiful, country music artist Beccy Cole has opened up about her new album of firsts.

Lioness is a 100 per cent Australian produced album, and the video clip features the first ever same-sex couple with a principle role.

Marrying her partner Libby O’Donovan earlier in the year, the album brims with love and life experience.

“I think people were a bit scared of not sticking to what people know and expect,” Cole said.

“But with over 30,000 views on social media I haven’t had one negative comment and I think that’s a sign of the times.

“That’s called equality and it’s the way it should be.”

A regular country-music haunt, Cole hasn’t missed one of Tamworth’s Country Music Festival’s since 1992, and she’ll bring her new tracks back in January.

For her it’s where it all began.

“I went up there as a busker with the Dead Ringer Band and Kasey Chambers because we couldn’t get any gigs – nobody wanted to book us,” Cole said.

“But in the end we got massive crowds, I love playing country music in places like Tamworth because the attraction to country music is bigger.

“People aren’t afraid of country music in regional Australia.”

In a traditionally blokey industry, Cole produced her album with Jules Parker and performed the song Lioness with an all female band.

“I felt very connected to all the women in the studio,” she said.

“I’m really proud of it.”
