Te fast bowler this week found out he had gained selection in the ACT/NSW Country side after impressing selectors at the under-17 State Challenge in Coffs Harbour last weekend.
The 15-year-old was one of 13 players, of 26, selected to represent ACT/NSW Country for nationals, in the Under 17s National Championships, to be held from October 1-11.
With so many other talented players competing at the state challenge, Montgomery wasn’t expecting to make the final cut but was thrilled he did.

“It was bloody great I guess,” he said.
“Everyone was so damn good. I knew when I was down there I did my best but I didn’t feel like I had a better chance than others.
“I was hoping I was going to get in but wasn’t really expecting it.”
At the State Challenge, Montgomery played for the ACT/NSW Country B team.
His first match was against the Metro Sixes. Given it was the first game he had played this season, he didn’t feel it was his best performance.
“The first day I was a bit rusty,” he said, adding: “It was the first game I’ve played this season. I’ve done training but haven’t actually played a game.”
ACT/NSW Country team B lost that first match but had better luck against the Metro Thunder side.
Montgomery also played better, getting a couple of wickets.
“It was pretty good,” he said.
Montgomery’s side then lost their final match against the other ACT/NSW Country team.
The St Philomena Year 10 student is now looking forward to playing the best of the best at the nationals.
