Dean Robert Squire to stand trial for sexual and indecent assaults during 2018 Tamworth Country Music Festival

Dean Robert Squire now faces four assault allegations after he appeared in Tamworth Local Court this week where two new charges were laid.

Squire is accused of sexual intercourse without consent of one woman and assaulting with an act of indecency of another in Tamworth, in the early hours of January 22.

A solicitor from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Group 6 division – the unit that prosecutes police officers – told the court sequences three and four were “fresh matters”. They are two allegations of assault with an act of indecency.

"They have been filed with the court, Your Honour," the DPP solicitor told the court.

Squire did not formally enter not guilty pleas to the four charges, during the brief proceedings.

The court heard there would be no application for a contested committal hearing with agent solicitor Kevin Carr tendering a signed waiver of committal document, meaning Squire was electing to head straight to trial.

After examining the court papers, magistrate Julie Soars committed Squire on all four charges.

“I order that you be committed for trial to the district court of Tamworth,” she told the court.

“I direct bail to continue.”

Squire will now appear in Tamworth District Court later this month for an arraignment where he is expected to plead not guilty.

He’s unlikely to get a trial date in Tamworth until late-2019, with most trial dates already booked for much of next year.

The now 28-year-old senior constable, who is based in the Central West, is suspended from duties, NSW Police confirmed after his arrest earlier this year.

He was charged on February 22 at Dubbo Police Station, following an investigation.

In April, a Dubbo magistrate refused a notice of motion to suppress the case or Squire’s identity.
