The TJC counted 162 nominations in total for Friday’s eight-race TAB meeting with $250,000 in prizemoney to be dispersed in what is also a fundraising meeting for drought-affected farmers.
It is also a Showcase meeting with seven of the races worth $30,000 and the eighth, the Ranvet Country Showcase Maiden Plate (1200m) carrying $40,000 in prizemoney.
The $40,000 Ranvet Maiden also attracted 26 nominations but that wasn’t the biggest of the eight races with the $30,000 Fibre Fresh Showcase Maiden Plate (1000m) finishing with 33 nominations.
While the maidens were well supported the TJC has extended nominations on three races – the Livamol with Bioworma Benchmark 74 Showcase Handicap (1400m), the Kelato Zanobolic Benchmark 66 Showcase Handicap (2100m) and the Kohnke Own Class 2 Showcase Handicap (1600m) – until 11am Tuesday after they drew 34 nominations between them.
Gulgong trainer Brett Thompson has nominated two in the Ranvet Maiden – Brave King and Morotai.
Brave King debuted at Gunnedah in early July with a 2.89 length second to Shot At The Reward before finishing 10th to Binnacle in a 1300m Moree Maiden on July 19.
Stablemate Morotai won the first race at Forbes on Monday and then two races later, Sorry I’m Awesome, also trained by Thompson won to give the trainer and jockey, Nick Heywood, a double on Forbes Cup day.
Thompson was very confident both could win and believes Sorry I’m Awesome can only improve.
“He does a lot of things wrong,” Thompson said.
“I always knew he’d win a race. When he does switch on he will make a very good horse.”
