A WOMAN will front court in August charged with animal cruelty after allegedly hitting a small dog in Tamworth.

The 27-year-old was charged on Sunday night with a string of offences including two counts of common assault, intimidation, committing an act of cruelty upon an animal and armed with intent.
Police allege the woman struck George the chihuahua during an incident in the front yard of a Susanne Street home about 3pm on Sunday.
Officers rushed the dog to a local vets in a critical condition, and on Monday, police said George was expected to make a full recovery.

The 27-year-old was granted strict conditional bail to front court in August.
Police will allege the incident was sparked after an argument between neighbours in the street.
