While the festive season might seem like an age away, the business chamber is hoping councillors will support a new campaign pushing people to buy their presents from Tamworth stores.
The ‘Think Local, Support Local’ push will offer rewards for people spending cash in the CBD with the business chamber seeking a $15,000 sponsorship from council to buy a car to give away in the campaign.

Councillors will vote on the proposal at Tuesday night’s meeting.
“The Tamworth Business Chamber believes that this local retail promotion will be one of the most publicised and talked about activities in the 2018 calendar,” the council report said.
“By allowing all businesses to opt in and participate in the promotion, it is inclusive, supportive and creates community engagement.”
At this stage, the promotion will put shoppers into the draw to win a car if they spend $30 in participating stores, as well as weekly prizes in the three-month push.
“Revenue from Tamworth Regional Council plus additional sponsorship attracted from secondary sponsors will fund the car and marketing of the promotion,” the report said.
“It has the potential to boost retail spirit and revenue and increase the amount of foot traffic in the Tamworth CBD, resulting in positive return on investment (and goodwill) for Tamworth Regional Council.”
Retail is the second largest employer in the council area and contributes close to $175 million to the local economy.
