At Tuesday night’s meeting, councillors will vote on whether to give 75 second-hand bins to Challenge Recycling, which the organisation would use as part of its school recycling program.
Council is required to have a certain number of bins placed in storage that are available for special events such as the Tamworth Country Music Festival.
However, over the years there have been changes to the number of bins required at events, and a review found many bins were under utilised.
Council staff also recommended buying 22 new bins at a cost of about $2700 and gifting them to Challenge.

“Challenge believes that 150 bins is the appropriate number required to provide full services to eligible schools in the Tamworth, Nemingha area,” the council report stated.
“With the 53 existing bins held by Challenge and the additional 75, this would mean Challenge would have 128 recycling bins available of their desired number of 150.”
On top of that, council has offered to give Challenge more than 40 “partially functional” bins, which could be used for spare parts or “other internal services”.
Council has proposed to partner with Challenge, and put together A3-sized recycling-specific stickers for schools, which would tell students what they can and can’t recycle. The 450 stickers would cost $3900.
