At Tuesday night’s meeting, councillors will vote on whether to take 100 per cent of council’s water allocation, rather than the 70 per cent it currently takes. In doing so, it will leave less water for everyone else.
TRC’s water director Bruce Logan said should councillors decide to use council’s full allocation, other water users would only be slightly impacted, and would still be in a better position than they were prior to the Chaffey Dam upgrade.
“My recommendation is that council should pursue this, as council pays $680,000 a year to Water NSW whether we use any water out of Chaffey or not,” he said.
“The council needs to consider whether they are getting full value. One of the main issues for council is that we need to keep an eye on the long-term water security for Tamworth.”
If councillors vote in favour of increasing the allocation, it still has to approved by the NSW government.
