Abbie Ferris releases debut single, For A Moment | VIDEO

For A Moment, the debut single from young singer Abbie Ferris, was released this week.

The South Australian teenager only finished high school last year, but she won a scholarship with Market The Music, which opened doors to songwriting and performing opportunities, which has quickly seen her become a star on the rise.

That has included taking this song, which she began writing while at school, and seeing it become the 19-year-old’s first single.

“It’s really exciting that now it’s out for people to hear,” Ferris said.

“I was in my car on the way to school, and I was humming this tune, and when I got there I was writing little things down in my notepad.”

Ferris still lives at the family home at Mallala, about 60km north of Adelaide, where, growing up, she was influenced by artists such as Taylor Swift, Shania Twain, Dolly Parton and Kasey Chambers.

“We live on 90 acres, with horses, turkeys, chooks, the whole deal,” she said.

“I was always a lover of music, since I was little. I used to stand up on my grandma’s kitchen table and sing A Little Bit Lonesome by Kasey Chambers, and as I grew older I decided that this is what I really wanted to do. I wanted to be a singer.”

Winning the scholarship last year saw Ferris head to Sydney, and it was there that those notes written in the classroom became a song, For A Moment, when Ferris got the opportunity to write with Michael Carpenter and Canadian artist Amy Nelson.

“I wasn’t used to writing with other people, so that was a great first experience for me, and they loved the song and wanted to work on it with me and it became what it is now.

“It was an amazing experience, because there’s more than just one brain, so you end up with a fantastic mixture of all these ideas.”

While the single has been released to radio, Ferris was also excited to learn that a video shot for the song, which was released yesterday, had already been added to Foxtel’s CMC playlist.

“I can’t wait for it to be on Country Music Channel,” Ferris said.
