Councillors opted to have the public theatre’s pricing system revert back to its 2017/18 form after voting on a change to the pricing structure at May’s council meeting.
The vote came after proposed changes to the theatre’s 2018/19 pricing structure caused unforeseen issues in the months since the decision.
Gunnedah Shire Council’s director of corporate and community services, Colin Formann, told the meeting the decision to increase prices had created problems for both staff and patrons.
“In the months following the decision, staff have encountered cash handling issues such as running out of change due to the odd and unrounded costs of items,” Mr Formann said.
“These issues have caused patrons to also have an unsatisfying experience and that is why we are recommending councillors vote to amend the error and revert to the 2017/18 pricing structure.”

Cr John Campbell said the decision to revert to the old structure was an easy one.
“I think Mr Formann has explained the error and its impact quite well,” Cr Campbell said.
“I also think Mr Formann has explained the solution well and it makes sense to revert to the old pricing structure.”
The change of pricing structure will see the cost of adult movie tickets drop from $15.45 back to $15 and children’s tickets drop from $11.35 to $11.
Other services like laptop rental will also see a drop in price as the daily cost of rental will fall from $15.45 to $15.
The new pricing structure is set to come into effect in the coming weeks.
