THE staff and customers of Tamworth Central Coles have rallied to donate five trolleys worth of goods to help farmers battling the drought.
Store manager Toni Cooper said than more than $1000 worth of stock had been donated in just a couple of weeks, which would go towards the Doing It For Our Farmers donation drive.
“It’s pretty overwhelming from a customer point of view,” Ms Cooper said.
“We’re absolutely delighted by the support from the team and the customers in the local area.
“From a team point of view, everyone is very passionate about this cause. It affects a lot of the team and a lot of people they know.”
Most of the donations were non-perishable food items, but there were also many “little luxury items”, such as shampoo, conditioner and razors.
“It’s those little bits and pieces that they might be missing, because they’re spending money elsewhere on the farm,” Ms Cooper said.
All the donated items will be turned in to hampers. The drive is ongoing, with a collection box set up at the store’s service desk.
