It may have been a dramatically understrength New England but after a season of struggle, the Kangaroos hope their 133-point drubbing of the Nomads at No.1 Oval is a “springboard” to success.
In what was fourth-placed Tamworth’s fourth win of the season, Adam Watson and Dan Overeem booted six goals and five goals. The final score was 21.26-152 to 2.7-19.
Veteran forward Overeem was quick to put the win into perspective. “Armidale are on uni holidays at the moment, and so they came to Tamworth with 16 players. They didn’t have a bench,” he said.

Conversely, Overeem said the Kangaroos had a full contingent of players.
He is hopeful that if Tamworth can keep the side largely intact, they can finish the season strongly.
And despite New England’s weakened state, he agreed that the Kangaroos still had to execute their plays well.
“It was a good win for the club,” he said, adding: “We’ve had a lean sort of year. We haven’t played our best footy. We’ve struggled week in week out to get a consistent bunch of blokes playing every week … So it was actually good to turn the tables yesterday [Saturday] and have a good win.”
In other matches, Gunnedah beat Moree 34.15-200 to 4.8-32 and the Tamworth Swans 14.14-98 downed Narrabri 8.5-53.
