Over two days sides representing the six different school sporting associations, as well as the Sydney Metro and NSW Country system, will battle it out in the final push for NSW Junior Rugby Union (NSWJRU) under-18 and NSW Schools jerseys.
Central North talent will feature across both days with Inverell’s Brady Mather playing on Thursday for the NSWJRU 1’s side against the Athletic Association of Great Public Schools (GPS) Blue and Griffiths lining up for the 2’s against GPS White.
The NSWJRU under-18 side to compete in Division Two at the National Championships on the Gold Coast from July 6-13 will be named following the games.
Griffiths, whose strong performances up front for Central North at the Opens Country Championships saw him named their best forward, has already played for NSW Country against City and had another trial on the weekend to decide the two teams to tackle GPS.
On Friday Size will turn out for the Combined High Schools (CHS) 1’s, Tomlinson, Roach and Inverell High’s Bailey Thomas the CHS 2’s, Calrossy’s Ben Grant the Association of Independent Co-Educational Schools (AICES) and McCarthy’s Doughal O’Reilly Combined Catholic Colleges (CCC) in what will be the final trials for the two NSW schools sides to contest the ASRU Championships at St Ignatius College, Riverview from July 8-14.
“We’ve already had one selection trial against ISA a few weeks ago,” Size said.
They have also played – and beaten - the CHS 2nds and CCC.
Friday though will be a different proposition.
“We play GPS (1’s). Obviously they’ll be fast and obviously be a lot stronger than us,” he said.
The Kookaburras players’ player at the Country Championships, Size was also selected in the NSW Country squad but elected to follow the schools pathway.
He will pack down at breakaway, while Tomlinson will play in the second row and Roach on the wing.
