Kurt Barrow’s return to the forward line has proved to be a masterstroke for Tamworth FC but it was by chance the footballer made the move back up front in 2018.

After playing in the midfield for the past three seasons, Barrow was set to play there again this year.
However, injury left a hole in the striker position. Enter Barrow.
“I netted a goal and we just stuck to the formation and I’ve luckily netted a few more,” he said.

He’s gone on to score 10 goals from eight games including three doubles.
And Barrow’s no stranger to finding the back of the net after he had three big seasons in Tamworth FC’s reserve grade side a few years back.
He had three of his best years with the boot in 2012 (27 goals), 2013 (19) and 2013 (28)
Barrow hoped to “get close” to those tallies and also said he was doing the easy part on the pitch.
“It’s definitely the players around me,” Barrow said when asked what his secret to goal-scoring was.
“It’s the support from the midfield and all the way down back as well.
“When you’re getting quality service, it’s easy to score goals.”
The former Gold Coaster has been with Tamworth FC for about eight seasons and the end of the road isn’t in sight for Barrow.
The 32-year-old is playing as good as ever and compared to some players at the club, Barrow’s a spring chicken.
“We’ve got a couple guys int he club playing premier league reserves and they’re pushing 50 so I think I’ve got a few years left in me,” Barrow said.
“I always get told by come of the coaching staff and players that you’re a long time retired.”
Plus, he still has some goals to tick off his list.
He came off the bench for FC’s first grade side that won premierships in 2012 and 2013 and then played in the side that won reserve grade in 2014 but missed the final.
Barrow would like to start in, and win, a grand final but said there was a long way to go.
“It’d be great to start and be part of a winning squad,” he said.
“At Tamworth FC, we’re not concentrated on firsts or reserves. We’re a squad and we all want to do well.
“It’s a tough competition across both grades but both teams are in good form.
“Reserves, especially, are going from strength to strength.
“It’s tight. Anyone could be there at the end but it’s definitely possible that both our sides could be there.”
Tamworth FC are undefeated in first grade while the reserve grade side sits fourth after winning three of their last four games.
Tamworth FC take on Demon Knights away from home on Saturday.
“Any team in Armidale is harder just because of the conditions,” Barrow said.
“Not sure what this weekend’s going to be like but I guarantee it’s going to be pretty fresh.
“DK are a tough team and they’ve just slipped into third. It’s going to be one of the tougher games for us.”
