The fires erupted in dry grassland off Locks Lane and Bicentennial Park about 4pm on June 14.
Fire and Rescue NSW crews from East and West Tamworth rushed to the scene and doused the fires, which spread in the dry grass.
Witnesses told police two boys were seen fleeing the area after the fire was sparked.
Police launched patrols and identified two boys, aged 11 and 17.

Following investigations, the pair were arrested at a house in Oxley Vale and charged with two counts of causing or setting fire to the property of another.
The boys were granted conditional bail to front Tamworth Children’s Court in July.
The arrests come just weeks after Strike Force Laden was launched to investigate a spate of fires in West Tamworth.
