Heading into the weekend’s games, there was a three-way tie on top of the ladder between Souths, Workies and Tudor Wests.

Souths took on Kiwis and came away with a 5-0 win while Workies beat Tudors 4-0.

The win for Souths broke a two-match losing streak for the side.

Souths coach Sam Clifton said after the losses, his side had gone back to basics.

“We were a lot better this week, mainly through our intensity,” he said.

“We started the season well and the last two games we weren’t applying ourselves enough.

“The guys are more than fit enough, it’s just about applying ourselves where we need to.

“We concentrated on our basics to maximise our efforts.”

Clifton said Souths “came together better” on the weekend with Neil Wood leading the way.

In the Workies-Tudors game, coach Andrew Farmilo said his side’s defence was the most “pleasing aspect” to come from the game after Workies had struck early in the match.

“I think we lacked a lot of teamwork. We scored relatively early and I think we got in the mode of everyone wanted to score a goal but Tudors are playing too well to do that,” he said.

“There was, probably, a lot of one out stuff in the circle instead of making a pass to a teammate in a better position.”

Despite that, Farmilo was happy with the win and even happier to be sitting in equal first alongside Souths.

Farmilo also said Isaac Woodley and Ben Merrick “were very good” for Workies on the weekend.

In first grade this weekend, Kiwis will take on Tudor Wests while South United and Services Workies will meet in a top of the table clash.
