The 53-year-old alleged victim was still in Tamworth hospital on Monday morning recovering from serious injuries including a suspected bleed on the brain, police told The Leader.

​He is believed to be in a stable condition.

Investigations are continuing into the incident in the carpark of a club off Margaret Street.

The 53-year-old local man was inside the club with friends for about 35 minutes before he left, about 5.15pm.

Police said when the man went to his car, he was attacked from behind as he went to open the door by three men who they claim were known to him.

The three men are alleged to have kicked and punched him, and knocked him unconscious.

Police and ambulance were alerted and rushed to the carpark, where a crime scene was set-up.

The alleged victim was taken to Tamworth hospital with serious injuries.

Detectives were called in to take charge of the case because of the serious nature of the injuries, and following investigations, three Tamworth men, aged 52, 28 and 31 were arrested.

All three men were taken to Tamworth Police Station and charged with recklessly causing grievous bodily harm in company.

All three were granted bail with several strict conditions to front court in July.

Investigations are continuing into the incident, and police are reviewing CCTV from inside the club.
