They’ve rigged up a standing bar with beer on tap, and Shane and Clayton Jacobson unapologetically snack on the popcorn brought as a prop for the photo.

The brothers are in Tamworth promoting their first feature film venture together since Kenny, Brothers’ Nest.

“It’s us, we were brought up in the working class western suburbs of Melbourne, our house was bought and built where it was because it was where my father could catch the most rabbits,” director Clayton said.

On a cold morning in country Victoria, the film follows two unfortunate brothers who spend the day plotting to knock off their step father – who they assume wants to rob them from their inheritance once their mother dies of cancer.

But, there’s one thing the brothers didn’t bet on with their Internet searches – enduring the day with each other.

It’s dark in the sense that it’s about real issues, family, inheritance, validation and dysfunction, Clayton said.

“We put an oxy torch on it in this film, people feeling like they’re not being validated within the family, those hierarchical problems get set in stone when you’re younger and start to reveal themselves as open wounds when you get older, so it’s a big of a powder keg.,” he said.

“My main aim was to be truthful, I want the audience to absolutely believe what they’re seeing could be real.

“This film will be a bit of a Lazy Susan where your sensibilities and loyalties will shift because everyone involved has their reason for why they behave the way they do.”
