The Frogs ended their two years out of the top division with a 10-1 thumping of Orange in the division two final of the open state championships at Narellan on Monday afternoon.

Frogs coach Greg Doolan described the victory as a “relief” – the promotion more important than the gold medal.

And he lauded the potential of his “very young” side and the possibility of claiming division one gold in the near future. He answered “big time” when it was put to him that the side’s future was bright.

“To get back so quickly [into division one] is a very pleasing result,” he said. “If we can keep this group together, hopefully in about two to five years we can actually challenge for the top spot.”

Doolan said it “was an absolute pleasure” having London Olympian Kate Jenner organising the Frogs’ defence in the final, while he also praised the performance of Alice Arnott in attack.

“So we had experience at the back and experience at the front, luckily,” he said, adding that Jenner led the side “brilliantly”.

He said Arnott and Amber Witney were deadly in front of goal.

Tamworth hockey boss Mark O’Connor described the outcome as a “dream” performance.

Tamworth’s No.1 men’s side finished fifth after beating Northern Sydney and Beaches 4-0 in their final game on Monday, while the No.2 men finished fourth and the No.2 women came sixth.

Andrew Farmilo, coach of the No.1 men, lamented the side’s lack of goals but lauded their effort.

He said: “We actually played pretty well. We just didn’t get the results in the circle. If you’re not scoring goals, you’re not winning games.”
