Now, her service to the sport in the region has been honoured posthumously with an Order of Australia Medal (OAM).
Mrs Lockwood was a life member of the Tamworth Netball Association, and the incumbent president, up until her death in 2017.
She was a towering figure in the sport, and according to those that knew her best, her family, Mrs Lockwood was a humble person who valued fair play and good sportsmanship above being the best.
Mrs Lockwood was 83.
