A vague clue released by Triple J on Monday afternoon revealed the concert would be heading to town with a population between 1000 and 15,000 people.
While it’s a broad marker, it rules out bids from Orange, Singleton and puts Manilla and its 2500-strong population firmly in the mix.
The free all-ages concert will be held on Saturday, September 1.
One Night Stand is an annual concert hosted by Triple J in a different regional town in Australia.
The concert is billed as “a chance to experience live music in a remote area not on the usual touring map”.
It has gone to regional towns all over the country since its inception in 2004, most recently to the outback mining town of Mount Isa, QLD (2017) and before that Geraldton WA (2016).
In turn, Triple j said it has also brought those towns to its listeners, “got to know the locals, told their stories and put them on the map”.
The full line-up, billed as its biggest ever, includes Tkay Maidza, Middle Kids and Alex The Astronaut.
“With every artist either at the peak of their career or experiencing an exciting break-out moment, we can’t wait to see what these acts have in store for us,” an ABC statement said.
Manilla local Mandy Skewes put in a bid on behalf of the small New England town in March, this year an suggested the town’s showground flanked by the iconic viaduct would make a great venue.
“We’ve got to move forward and it’s not going to happen unless we put our hands up,” she said at the time.
