Ireland said the result perfectly illustrated the effectiveness of the Thunderbolts’ 15-man squad, after they so ruthlessly countered the loss of key players Ben Monckton and Jayden Pryer for personal reasons, in the 112 to 68 win.
“That’s one of the positives that we’ve got with the squad formation this year,” Ireland said. “We’ve got 15 guys that can step up on to the floor and get the job done for us at any point.
“Guys really stepped up in their [Monckton and Pryer] absence and took their opportunity and played exceptionally well.”
It was the second-placed Thunderbolts’ sixth win of the season, against one loss.
Ireland singled out for special mention Rashanti Harris, for his rebounding, Chris Skilton, whom he said showed why “he’s been in the past one of the best players in the state” and Monckton, for continuing his hot shooting.
“It was a really good team performance,” he said. “At different points there was some really great basketball played.”
