Norths United will face top-of-the-table Tamworth FC at Rologas 1 for round eight after downing cross-town rivals South Armidale 3-nil on Saturday.
“It is going to be hard game because FC is obviously leading the show but we are not worried about them, we are worried about us,” Norths co-coach Scott Freeman said.
Putting the same side on the park has haunted the Redmen all year and Freeman isn’t expecting this Saturday to be any different.
“It would be nice to have a set line-up but it is just not happening,” he said.
“We would love to know that these are the the 11 to 13 blokes that are going to run around in first grade for us every week but something always seems to poke its ugly head up.”
Next door to the Norths-Tamworth game will see Demon Knights take on North Companions.
DK had the bye on Saturday and were in Coffs Harbour the weekend prior for the FFA Cup.
“After the FFA Cup thing is all over now we just have to concentrate on getting back and playing some good football in our league,” coach Evan Quaife said.
“We have had close games with them [North Companions] the last few years.
“They probably haven't gone as well as they would have liked this year. [We will] just concentrate on our team playing its best and let the result take care of itself.”
East Armidale will make the trip to Tamworth to take on the second-placed Oxley Vale Attunga after posting a big 5-1 win over North Companions in round seven.
Coach Mark Gwynne was rapt with his team’s performance against Northies and believes if they can pull together again this Saturday, they will be hard to beat.
“Corby Kliendienst got a hat-trick and if was going to give three points he would have been the three but the other 10 players on the field deserved three points each,” he said.
“Everybody just played as a team, a really good team effort and was good to see. It is just coming together at the right time.
“They [OVA] will have two out when we play on Saturday but I don't care if they have another 10 like them, if we play like we did last Saturday, that is all we have to do from now on in.”
