More than 40 Australian Toys R Us stores were placed into administration on 21 May, while the business continues to trade.
Despite the store closing in Tamworth for some time ago, many locals hold fond memories of the store.
NSW Fair Trading Commissioner, Rose Webb, said administrators McGrathNicol have advised gift cards will only be honoured in store, not online. However, customers must spend the equivalent value of the card, in order to redeem it.

“Consumers who have a $100 gift card will need to spend $200 or more to redeem the full value of the card. Those who don’t wish to spend the extra money should register as an unsecured creditor with the administrator,” Ms Webb said.
“Those who’ve paid deposits or paid in full for goods that are yet to be delivered, should contact the store about delivery.
“The Administrator has also confirmed online orders will be delivered where goods have been paid for in full and the stock is available, and that lay-by will be honoured if the outstanding balance is paid and items are in stock.
“If the goods are not provided, consumers who paid by credit card should contact their bank and seek a charge-back,” Ms Webb said.
Customers can contact Toys R Us on 1300 869 778 or support@toysrus.com.au. The administrator McGrathNicol can be contacted at toysrus@mcgrathnicol.com and details of a meeting of creditors will be published on their website www.mcgrathnicol.com.
