A man who allegedly defrauded more than $400,000 from a tour company he was working for - and accepted cash from them for cancer treatment he wasn't receiving - has faced a Sydney court.

Tony Petrovski, 43, appeared briefly in the Downing Centre Local Court on Wednesday after being charged in April with five counts of dishonestly obtaining financial advantage by deception.
Police allege Petrovski, from Blackbutt in the NSW Illawarra region, made 82 unauthorised transactions from the business accounts of Imperial China Tours to his own over a period of more than five years.
Court documents show that transactions, made between March 2011 and December 2016, totalled more than $429,318.
Petrovski also took 25 days sick leave in 2016 after claiming to have cancer, and accepted a cash payment from the company to help with treatment, police have said.
They said subsequent inquiries by the company revealed he wasn't receiving any treatment.
Petrovski remained silent as his matter was briefly heard in court on Wednesday, with both his lawyer and a prosecution lawyer describing it as "complex".
The matter has been adjourned until July 4.
