The $30,000 showcase races at Gunnedah on Sunday are a giant lure for local trainers but Clegg won’t bounce his talented mare back into one of those.
“I was looking at Gunnedah but it’s too soon for her so we’ll look around for a 1200m for her,” Clegg said Saturday evening.
“She’s pulled up enormous after that win too. Choc (Anthony Cavallo) got off her and said she’s still green as grass.”
The three-year-old daughter won Friday’s $20,000 Liverpool Plains F&M Maiden Plate (1200m) by a half length from Todd Howlett’s Kirri Lia with Gavin Groth’s Bring The Joy a half head away third.
Clegg said Friday’s win had been coming for a while, too.
“You only had to look at her last run,” Clegg said of a four-length 11th of 14 to Peloso Lass at Tamworth on cup day.
“Peter Graham came back and said she should have finished second at least.
“Great to win for Errol [French] too. He bought her at the Magic Millions on the Gold Coast and Ricky Hopf broke her in at home [Kootingal] here.
“She’s run a couple of good races at different times as well. But Errol has been real good to me, too, I’ve got four [in work] for him at the moment.”
There’s plenty of racing coming up with the Moree Picnic Cup meeting on Saturday and the Gunnedah Cup meeting on Sunday. Quirindi Jockey Club race again on June 12 with the John “Muse” Sinclair Cup meeting.
