The boys did that and much more as 11-year-old Archie won the Youth D Male bouldering crown while younger brother Fred, 8, picked up a top 10 finish.
The Youth D division was for competitors aged 11 years and under and Archie said the championships – which were held at the Sydney Indoor Climbing Gym in Villawood – were “pretty tough”.
Archie was “shocked” and “thrilled” to be named national champion after he and his brother put in a mountain of training with coach Sasha Gerzha in the lead-up.

“The boys have trained pretty hard and to see it all come together at that time is the really pleasing thing.”

“I just think the next move won’t be as hard as it’s going to be,” Archie said.
Chris, of Freestyle Bouldering Gym, said the sport was continuing to grow both both in Tamworth and around Australia.
The gym held the inaugural Tamworth Boulder Cup at the start of May while the Freestyle Bouldering League kicked back off last week.
