Over 1600 students filed through the door of the TRECC on Wednesday, hoping to get a sneak peak, or some clarification on what that next step could be, and how to go about it.
Run by the City of First Light Rotary Club, this year’s huge expo had 74 exhibitors, ranging from everything from traditional university degrees, through to trades, robotics, armed forces and primary industries, and everything else in between.
Coordinator Marina Lawrence said that the students, aged from year ten to 12 came from all over the region including Narrabri, Walcha, Glen Innes, Barraba and Armidale.

“We always have a big university presence, although we are finding that more local businesses are getting on board, offering traineeships and options like that,” she said.
“The kids all have different interests, so it is great to get that variety across the board.”
For Calrossy student Thomas Leckie there is no question, he was finding the best university course for geology, however for Narrabri High’s “wannabe Youtube star”, Daniel McInnes, the path isn’t so simple.
“I don’t really know where to start with a career, so I just thought I could come and talk to a few people,” he said.
Fellow Calrossy student Breyanna Goldman was also on an information hunt, trying to decide between criminology and a career in film and the arts.
“There is so many options – it is so hard to choose a career so days like this are great to have a look around and talk to different people from different places,” she said.
