The carnival started on Tuesday as the North West side played three matches at the Tamworth Sports Dome on day one.
The boys weren’t able to snag a win but team manager Keighan Roser said there were plenty of positives to take from the opening day.
“As the day went on, they kept improving all the time,” Roser said of the North West players.
“We had five that played last year and came back [into the side] but the rest are still getting to know one another. We only got two trainings in.”
North West’s three matches on day one of the carnival were against Sydney South West (57-27), Sydney East (72-24) and Sydney North (38-23)
North West will play another three games on Wednesday with the opening match of day two set to be a close one.
“We play Western straight up,” Roser said.
“That’ll be very competitive and one we’d like to win.”
The North West side at the CHS boys basketball in Broken Hill also played on Tuesday.
The team played two matches.
The boys beat Sydney West before going down narrowly, 57-53, to South Coast.
