Yesterday, fifteen years after the first Relay for Life was held in Walcha, the fourth event was held.
A morning tea for survivors and carers was followed by an afternoon tea honouring committee members past and present.
Throughout the day there was entertainment, including the popular Miss Relay for Life event which was once again won by a man.
An auction was held at 5pm and at twilight the candle light ceremony began. Walkers continued to do laps of the showground until 10pm.
The amount banked when the gates opened at 10am on Saturday was just more than $12,500 but Cancer Council NSW community coordinator Sam Crawley said much more had been raised on the day and final amounts would be known later today.
“Organised by passionate, local volunteers, each relay event is an experience that will stay with participants forever,” said Ms Crawley.
“The event went really well and the Walcha Relay for Life Committee did a fantastic job of organising delicious food and entertainment on the day. The support of the community was wonderful.”
