LESS-than-ideal viewing conditions for Stories Under the Stars didn’t deter performers from some engaging storytelling or audience members from immersing themselves in the event.
The second annual event as part of the Tamworth Regional Heritage Festival was held at the botanic gardens.
Host Len Waters, along with performances on the didgeridoo and from singers and the mirrii yulugi-li (star dancers), told of some of the significant constellations, their meaning for the Kamilaroi people, and the lessons they held for all.
“Despite the cloudy skies, we were proud to tell some important stories and share some culture,” Mr Waters said.
He said that because the skies changed over the months, viewings should be repeated at least three times a year, anyway.
“We’re planning on holding another one in the middle of winter.”
