A POLICE officer has been treated in hospital after a fight spilled from the street into his police car in Tamworth.

The male sergeant was driving along Goonoo Goonoo Road in Tamworth about 9.30pm on Wednesday when he stopped to break up a fight between three men on the side of the road.
Police allege one man jumped into the back of the police vehicle to escape the two other men, before they followed and allegedly continued to assault him.
The sergeant tried to break up the fight and called for backup.
The pair were dragged from the car and arrested and taken to Tamworth Police Station.
A 41-year-old man was charged with affray and granted conditional bail while a 32-year-old was charged with affray and refused bail after police alleged he breached his bail.
The officer was taken to Tamworth hospital with minor injuries and has since been released.
Police said investigators are reviewing CCTV and speaking to witnesses and further charges are pending.
