SOUTH Tamworth, North Tamworth and West Tamworth bowling clubs will all host top level Singles Championships this weekend.
West Tamworth Sports and Bowling Club will be the venue for the President/Reserve Singles while North Tamworth Bowling Club will host the Senior Singles.
The main event, the open State Singles will be held at South Tamworth Bowling Club where 26 of the best players from within the 12-club Central North District Bowling Club will compete, advised CNDBA secretary/treasurer Peter Kachel.
“The winners of the State, Presidents/Reserve and Senior CNDBA titles will then go to the Zone 3 Playoffs and they will be held at West Tamworth on July 14/15,” Kachel said.
He said there are a number of outstanding players among the 71 nominated across the three divisions.
“Players like Mark Golledge (South), Stewart Bayliss (South), Phil O’Reilly (North), Jason Douglas (West), Nev White (City) and Bill Stanton (West) are entered for the State Singles at South,” he said.
“Mick Shelton (West), Ray Finnigan (North), Fred Thompson (West) and Craig McKenna (Kootingal) are entered in the President Reserve Singles and Kim Greentree (South) and Les Goodchild (Kootingal) are good chances in the Seniors.”
South Tamworth’s Phil Johnson is the Controlling Body for the State Singles at South and is prepared for a big weekend.
“It’s wide open,” Johnson said.
“Should be some great bowls played but it is pretty well wide open, there are no standouts. Anyone can win it. That’s a good thing too.”
While it is open the actual winners won’t be known on the weekend due to the large numbers of entries.
“We will get to semi final play on Sunday afternoon,” he said.
“The finals will have to be played on another date. We’re just very happy to host it. Looking forward to some quality bowls from some good players.”
