While we had seen the High Hopes ladies play recently, we hadn’t had a chance to see the Everingham Solomans’ Eversoldiers in action. These two teams have a history of epic tussles and seem to take turns enjoying the spoils of victory. Hopes were definitely High from the team in orange, and they ran out winners in a close encounter.
Deb Tufrey from High Hopes openned the scoring, but the Eversoldiers ladies quickly countered with Emma Higgins levelling the score. Emma’s teammate Michaella Toomey made her mark before Emma went back for a three pointer and then tagged Michaella for another two.
High Hopes Samantha Roberts kept her team in the running with a lovely goal and then paving the way for Emily Tudman to sink her own two pointer. This must have broken the seal for Tudman as she sunk a long-range three pointer and followed up with another two. Ann Blake got a chance to make her mark before Tudman again showed her scoring skill.
The ladies in the Harriet Kate Designs singlets had more attempts at goal which were rejected by the hoop keeping their score on 15 at half time.
Eversoldiers were able to convert their efforts into points more readily as shown by Olivia Barton’s shot, followed up quickly by Kylie Higgins who potted two in a row. Barton had another success before Michaella Toomey made her three, allowing Barton to finish their half time score on 25.
Back on the court after a much needed break, especially for the Everingham Solomons ladies who had only one reserve to spell them, both teams hit the court with enthusiasm.
Eversol’s Michaella Toomey channelled her inner traffic cop striking a pose that would have stopped most in their tracks. Donna Gorman from High Hopes was able to break through to sink her first of the game and followed up with a two pointer that seemed to surprise even her when it dropped.
Eversoldiers continued with their accurate shooting from the first half as Kylie Higgins and Michaella Toomey took turns to score. Then along came High Hopes Emily Tudman who blitzed the scoreboard and helped her team to even the score. Tudman kept up the scoring to hit the lead and beyond before Ann Blake and Kylie Jenkins brought it home.
The Eversoldiers gave as good as they got, but were ultimately unable to match the pace of their opposition.
Final score was High Hopes on 42 and Eversoldiers on 38 from a fast paced game that was great to watch with friendly ribbing and support from both of these teams.
