After scoring two first half goals, Tudor Wests were then under the pump in the second stanza.

“Services came out harder in the second half,” Tudors coach Helen Willis said.

“We stuck to our game plan. It was really good.

“We had a new player, Christie Alexander, who strengthened our defence along with Katelyn Morgan and Amy Eveleigh.

“We were under immense pressure in the second half but our defence held together.”

Willis said the side’s structure was “really good” in the opening half which led to plenty of penalty corners along with the two goals to Brooklyn Cooper.

“In the first half, I’d have to mention our midfield – Sarah Willis, Jess Clarke and Brooklyn Cooper,” Willis said.

“Jess actually got player of the match.”

Willis said the signs were good for the season ahead after a handful of players were missing from the weekend’s game.

“We’re still missing Dakota Barnett-Suey who’s away at under 15s nationals at the moment. Millie Sherwood is out with a hamstring injury and we only had a couple subs,” Willis said.

“This is the first year we’ve had a very similar team from last year.

“It’s a really young team, the average age last year was 15 or 16.

”This is our first win. We’re on the improve.”

South United took on Olympians over the weekend as well.

Heading into the match, South United coach Andrew Davy knew his players would have to be on the ball in the midfield.

And they were.

He said the midfield would be an area of strength for Olympians but Souths were up to the task to take out out a four-goal victory.

Davy was happy with the final score and also commended Olympians on their efforts.

“We had a 5-1 win which was a good result,” Davy said.

“Olympians – they have some young players that will develop over time.

“They’ll get better as the season goes as the younger players get more first grade experience.”

Davy said Nardi Pollock, Lucy Frame and Meg Lye were Souths’ best on the weekend with Frame claiming a double in front of goal.

Davy also noted his side would changes from week-to-week as a number of players come from Armidale and will be unavailable at times.

That wasn’t a negative for the coach.

“We’ll have a different team each week but that allows some of our young players the opportunity to get first grade experience,” he said.

“Players like Amber Whitney, Lucy Frame, Callie Michel, Maeve Galvin, Maddie Lewin.”

In the Flames-Waratahs game, the Flames came home with a win after the Waratahs forfeited the match.
