Playing his first game back in Tamworth for about 15 years, Levick was Tudors’  player of the match in their season-opening 7-1 win.

“He really controlled the midfield,” Tudors co-coach Sam Lobsey said.

“He’s a handy inclusion for us. He gives us a bit of extra energy in the midfield.”

Levick was one of five goal scorers for Tudors with Lobsey and brother Matt both jagging doubles. Matt was making a cameo appearance, and made it three Lobsey’s on the field with Brett leading Tudors out.

He, Sam and Brad Hall are sharing the coaching load this season, and couldn’t have asked for a better start.

“It was a good start to the season,” Sam Lobsey said.

“But we know it’s going to get harder.”

But it is a promising starting point. There were some nice connections through the middle and up front, and pleasingly they were able to put a few goals away.

After a couple of lean seasons, Lobsey said they have brought in a bit more of a relaxed approach.

“We’re just trying to play the ball without putting too much pressure on ourselves.

“Because we are trying to change things up we’ve got a fresh approach,” he said.

He said it was starting to feel a bit repetitive.

Along with Levick, Lobsey also noted the performance of a couple of players stepping up. Johno Chamberlain was one of those after playing third grade mostly last season, and got his name on the scorecard.

“Johno had a really good game. He’ll feature a fair bit for us in first grade,” he said.

Sam Wright also made the trip down from Armidale and will be another good inclusion.

Earlier South United knocked off reigning premiers Kiwis 3-2, Luke Albertson, Harper Galvin and Nick McIlveen finding the net for the victors.
