The Newcastle Knights will take the field in their special high-visability replica mining jersey in support of the region’s miners and the hundreds of businesses that supply the local mining industry.
It’s part of a “voice for mining” celebration, recognising the economic and employment opportunities that the industry provides.
As a former Hunter miner, Knights winger Nathan Ross said he had a first-hand understanding of how important mining is to communities right across regional NSW.
“I worked as an underground miner, so I understand that mining is the beating heart of mining communities right around NSW and really important to thousands of families across the State,” he said.

Tamworth Business Chamber President, Jye Segboer, acknowledged the importance of the local mining industry to Tamworth and also the boost Saturday’s game will be for the area.
“The Voice for Mining celebration in Tamworth will provide a real boost for local businesses,” he said.
“It’s a wonderful opportunity for the business community to be part of the NRL fever on Saturday.
“This match will provide a chance to get up close and personal with elite athletes as well as lend your support to our local miners and their families,” he said.
