On one hand, it highlights just how much our residents love their rugby league, and the amount of bums on seats at the Scully Park complex will be a testament to that.
On the other hand, there is the pulling power that Tamworth and its facilities have. To bring an NRL game to the area, and to sell out of tickets, is a fantastic boost for the region.
At a time when we are head-to-head in a bidding war with other regional centres to host major events, it’s great to see all those involved in the NRL project pull this off.
Things like this don’t come easy, and we should be grateful to those who have partnered and worked behind the scenes to make it happen.
While we don’t want to predict the success of the event before it has even happened, there already have been big wins for the city of Tamworth since the NRL match was secured last year.
We can be confident that the thousands of footy fans and their families would not only be from Tamworth itself but would travel from right across the region to be a part of Saturday night’s spectacle.
And it won’t be just the NRL hosts, the Wests’ Entertainment group set to benefit from this either.
Accommodation providers would be set to reap some rewards from the influx of fans into the city.
Our retailers inside and out of the CBD would also be able to cash in on the bevy of consumers.
Our pubs, clubs, cafes and restaurants should also expect to benefit from this one big event – and with the quality of our eateries in town, we know our guests won’t go hungry.
We can only hope that the benefits from this one big night of sport can be seen in the weeks and months after.
If we put on a good enough show for the visitors, we could maybe expect to see them return down the track.
They might even tell their family and friends about their experience in the North West and they’d want to see what all the fuss is about for themselves.
It can also put us in good stead for events like this in the future and secure our place ahead of other centres as a major events hub – let’s give it a red hot go.
