The disciplined Bears might have drawn their first game against Dungowan 8-all on Saturday but then won every game after that including a 12-4 win over Kootingal-Moonbi in the final that same day.
Group 4 public officer Peter Blom said the Bearettes took the bare minimum 11 players to Barraba and refused to yield all day.
“It was brilliant, they all played every game,” Blom said after the eight-point final win. “They were very disciplined all day.”
The inaugural tournament became a round robin event when just five clubs entered, but that didn’t deter the Barraba Bulldogs.
With Kerry Phillips leading the way, they organised a “fantastic day”, Blom said.
“We had a very successful day,” Phillips added.
“The final was a great game too. We had beautiful weather. [We] didn’t have one mishap, no hiccups or injuries.”
She hopes to run another KO next year with all the Group 4 clubs.
“We want to make it bigger and better,” she said.
Blom said that would be ideal.
“They did a fantastic job today [Saturday],” he said.
“For a little place like Barraba they put so much into it. We do want to run it again next year. They’ll run it and when we get everyone there next year it will be an even better day. It was so well organised today.”
