Mr Haycock and his late wife, Maureen, have already been honoured in the Scouting world, with the naming of the Haycock Centre in Tamworth, the North West Region office, however it will be for his endless service and kind heart that those that knew and loved Stack will remember most.
Mr Haycock passed away in Dubbo late last year, where the funeral was held after a long battle with cancer. The weekend’s memorial service offered a chance for all those who knew and were touched by him to come together and celebrate his life.
Scouts, Rotary, the Masonic Lodge, the Order of Australia Association and Farrer were all represented at the service, which alone is a measure of the service he gave to the community.
Mr Haycock was an active member of the Scouts movement for 74 years after first joining in Wellington in 1943.
He also served as a teacher and Deputy Principal of Farrer for over 20 years.
