Joined with best mate, Keith McIntosh, Tom will drive his 1930 A Model Ford over 7,443 kilometres from Byron Bay to Shark Bay, Western Australia in around 30 days.
Goondiwindi is the first stop on their long journey.
“He just has an incredible story of success,” Goondiwindi Chamber of Commerce executive officer Brooke Saxby said before the town’s business breakfast on Tuesday.
“He lived in a small country town with a little bakery and he had a vision and a dream to make it the best little bakery, and he did. Now he employs over 200 people in a small community."
Tom is the founder of the well-known Beechworth Bakery chain, and often shares his success story as an inspirational speaker and author.
He and Keith have both been impacted by cancer, and aim to raise over $100,000 for the Fiona Elsey Cancer Research Institute during their trip.
"It’s something that’s very close to Tom’s heart,” Brooke said.
The two mates have taken on ambitious road trips before; and drove to the tip of Cape York, and along the Birdsville track at a top speed of 50 kilometres an hour.
