His Science and Innovation project, which will be funded for 12 months under the award, will use motion sensors and GPS trackers attached to the animals to detect changes in activity and movement.
“It’s great to be recognised like this and have the ability to fund an industry I’m passionate about,” Mr Barwick said.
New England MP Barnaby Joyce said it is a privilege to have local people like Jamie at the cutting edge of farming research and development.
“Agriculture and the livestock industry underpin a big part of our economy here in the New England,” he said.
“It’s fantastic to meet those who are helping progress local industry and drive productivity in the rural sector for the benefit of all Australians.”
The Science Awards recognise big ideas from young rural innovators that contribute to the success of Australia’s agriculture sector.
