The Wizards ran out 30-11 winners in a fast paced affair.
This is the first season the team has played together with the new crop of Year 7 boys joining the growing basketball culture at the Farrer campus.
Farrer have so many teams this year that the old uniforms had to be redeemed from storage to outfit the Wizards in the red and yellow as well as the green and gold standard.
The old uniforms seemed suitably appropriate to the team name bringing to mind a king’s court of old.
The young Representative team has some familiar faces from last year and have welcomed some new talent to the Rep experience.
As usual, coach Paul, “Hobbo”, Hobson was on the sidelines encouraging and guiding the boys to give their best performance.
Farrer took off to a flying start when Elijah Allan sunk the first basket of the game in the opening seconds.
Robbie Lay backed him up with another two before Harlen McDougall kept the board ticking over.
Ben Cini from the junior Thunderbolt team wasn’t letting Farrer have it all their own way when he broke the seal for his team.
This opened the door for Mason Heywood to join Ned Hagon and Sam Peeters adding to their team’s points total for the first half.
The Bolts boys didn’t let up on the Wizards in the second half, making up in heart what they lacked in stature.
They threw themselves into the game shadowing their opponents and making some good steals from under the noses of the opponents.
Slater Luckey sunk the first blue basket of the half and Ben Cini continued his scoring bonanza.
Farrer played a strong team game with their precise passing and support play.
Liam Durie, Harrison Peeters, Angus Gale, Harrison Vermeulen and Beau Berg-Williams joined Allan, Lay and McDougall in the team’s total of 30 to the Representatives’ 11.
Tamworth will host their first home game of the State League when the Thunderbolts come up against the Port Macquarie Dolphins on Saturday night.
The face-off will begin at 6pm and it has all the markers for a cracker of a game.
Ticket prices have been raised slightly this year after many years at the same cost.
Adults are now $8, children and students are now $5.
Representative players wearing their team polos will only cost $2 and there is a new family ticket for $20.
Come out and support our Bolts and check out the new faces in John Ireland’s squad.
Go the Bolts!
